Sermons on Called (Page 2)

This week was Father’s Day. Richard takes the opportunity to talk about the role God has for all the Dad’s out there.  (Now might be a good time to say that Richard is my Dad and I couldn’t be prouder). The role of the father in the Christian family is a special one. Let’s find out what that is.

We continue our sermon series on Godly relationships, taken from Ephesians chapters 5 and 6. This time, we’ll discuss a household relationship that isn’t so common anymore: the relationship between slaves and their masters. Obviously, it’s a wonderful thing that in the Western World, slavery has been abolished, but we can still learn from what Paul says about this relationship and apply it to our own lives.

Bridges span vast distances that, without them, we would have no hope of crossing. This week Richard, in this lesson, speaks to the similar nature of God’s grace and how, with His grace and our faith, we can span the vast chasm of death and sin in order to cross over to salvation.

In the Renaissance, there was a time of illumination. It was known as the “Age of Enlightenment”. It was a coming out of the “Dark Ages” and a time of science and reason. In our walk with God, we are to have our own Enlightenment and illumination. We need to come out of our spiritual darkness and walk in the light.

This week, John talks about love and how Christians are called to love. Walking in love means having a love for everyone and not allowing hate to fill your hear.

When actor/director/writer Kevin Smith suffered a massive heart attack, Chris Pratt said he’d pray for Kevin. Christ Pratt was then attacked by atheists. There is a mindset that needs to be changed in order to change a person’s life. Change your mind and change your life!

When you’re called by God, what does that mean? There is real power behind God’s call! What goes along with that? This is the topic Richard delves into in this week’s lesson.

In this second part of “Called by Whom”, John speaks about being called by the Son. Who is the this? We all know that Jesus is called, and is,  the Son of God. What does this actually mean though? We know that Jesus is God, but he also came to Earth as a man. This is a difficult concept to grasp, as is the overall nature of the Trinity. This is what is discussed in this lesson.

Our theme this year is “You’ve been called”. Last week Richard gave the introduction to the theme. This week John asks the question “Called by Whom?” There’s a couple aspects to this question. In this first part, John takes a look at what it means to be called by the Father, that is God the Father. 

This week, we start a new theme for the year. It is called “You’ve Been Called”. We have a calling as Christians. We have a sacred duty to go forth and spread the Gospel and save souls. Richard uses the calling soldiers and nations had to stop evil in World War 2 to illustrate the similar task we have of stopping Satan and saving the world.
