The Horrors of Sin and the Wonders of Grace

Welcome back to the podcast!
The gospel of Jesus Christ is good news. But it is good news in response to some very bad news, in fact the worst news of all. Paul states in Romans 3:23: ‘For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ Because of our sin, we are all lost, doomed without any hope. But Paul continues, ‘And are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.’ We who were lost are made righteous through Jesus because of God’s amazing grace. What a gift! This is the Good News! Today we worship God for the gift of His grace.
Allan, the sermon will follow the text of James 4:1-10. It begins with the bad news, the horrors of sin; how our passions warring within us cause us to lash out at others while we try to satisfy our own desires. Sin ruins us and destroys our relationships. We never really get what our desires are after. We can become spiritual adulterers. That is the bad news: The horrors of sin,
But, in verse 6 James says ‘But He gives more grace.’ God responds to our failures with more grace! This is the good news. James then tells us how to receive this grace: Submit to God. Resist the devil. Draw near to God. Cleanse our hearts. Weep over our sin. Humble ourselves before the Lord and He will lift us up.
God will cleanse us and shower us with grace if we will humble ourselves before Him, repent, and give Him control of our lives.
