My Body, My Blood

by: Richard Shields

Welcome back to the podcast!

On the day before his death, Jesus came together with his Apostles to eat the Passover Meal, remembering God’s great deliverance of Israel from their years of slavery in Egypt. This would be no ordinary night.  Jesus would take the bread and cup of the Passover meal and reinterpret them in terms of his own body and blood. Which was given for the salvation of the world. On the first day of every week, we come together to share in the body and blood of Jesus. As we worship together this morning, let’s reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made for each one of us. Let us also thank God that our Lord is present with us today as we break the bread and drink the cup.
As the apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 “The Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, ‘This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”

The scriptures for this lesson are: Exodus 12: 1-14. Read by John Shields, and Psalms 41: 9. Read by: Donny McElwain.
