Sermons on Christian Living (Page 2)

Even as the Lord Loves

So far this year, many of the sermons have been centered around the idea that we’ve been called. Today we’re going to focus in on a figure from the Old Testament who was also called by God. However, this man was not called into a glamorous, or joyful position. Instead, he was called into a life of pain, betrayal, and depression. Did he answer the call? Can we answer the call when He calls us into uncomfortable situations? These questions and more will be discussed in the sermon entitled: “Even as the Lord Loves”.

The Divine Prescription for Healing

It can be frustrating when a doctor gives a misdiagnosis, or even when he or she just can’t figure out what’s wrong with you. On the other hand, it can be a huge relief when they get it right and can treat whatever is bothering us and impacting our health. Fortunately, in God, we have a doctor that never fails and has the ultimate spiritual health treatment.

Life

Life is everywhere and all around us. We are alive. Jesus is alive. In this episode, Richard speaks of his love of life and his hatred of death. He also speaks about how God is Life and death is the wages of sin. What does it mean to be alive in Christ and living in the Kingdom? Find out!

Topsy Turvy: People vs Objects

We personify objects all the time. Personification is when you give an object human qualities (naming a car, calling a boat “she” etc.).  When we do this, we are giving these things a measure of importance. We also objectify emotions. We say things like “I fell head over heels in love” when we can’t quite define what we’re feeling.  Things are things and people are people. What happens when we start personifying objects but start objectifying people? This is the topic John explores in this week’s lesson.

At the Door At the Cross

Sometimes when we come together on Sunday mornings we may feel like we need to leave the problems of our life outside, put on a happy face and pretend. But nothing could be further from the truth. Today if you are hurting, suffering, or find yourself struggling with a burden in your life, you have come to the right place. Don’t leave your troubles at the door, bring them inside, and take them to the cross of Christ. Because when we take our problems to the cross, we find a God who cares, a Savior who strengthens, and a way to move forward in faithfulness.

Learning to Listen

When you are conversing with someone, do you listen or do you just wait to speak? Everyone wants to give their opinions or advice. We are so quick to speak and do so without thinking about what we are actually saying. This can be seen in political commentary shows on the networks regularly. This week John speaks on the other half of the art of conversation: listening. We have forgotten how to listen. The Word has much to say on this subject. So keep your ears open!

Soul Food

When we think of soul food, we think of mac and cheese, creamed spinach maybe, chicken fried steak; all the kinds of fair that put southern cooking on the map. But what Jesus is talking about in this week’s lesson, and what John is delving into, is true soul food. A kind of food that sustains salvation and eternal life.

Amazed by Faith

In this week’s lesson, Richard goes into all the great things that can be done through faith in Christ. When we truly have faith, anything is possible. After all faith can move mountains, can’t it?

I Am Not Ashamed

Are you ashamed of sharing your faith? Are you ashamed to let people know about you being a Christian? Are you ashamed of Jesus and what he did for you? The answer “no” may pop out of your mouth pretty quickly. But This week Richard goes into the Word and asks us to use it to examine our life and behaviors.

It Starts With You

This week John uses the story of the Titanic to illustrate what can happen when we all take responsibility for the souls of the world. The crew of the Titanic did not do all they could to save the lives of most of the passengers of that lost ship. Will we be any different? Will we take action? Our duty is no less grave than the duties of that crew. Our efforts, bolstered with the awesome power of God, can change the world if we would only take action.
